If you live in our area of West Sonoma County, you’ve seen the construction going on at the corner of Hwy 12 West and Morris Street, just as you come into town and hit that first stop light. What it’s all about is the Barlow, a combination culinary and shopping center in the vein of the Oxbow Market in Napa or the Ferry Building in San Francisco but scaled down to West County’s needs and restrictions. Over 12.5 acres there are 17 buildings echoing the architecture of the apple processing buildings that once stood in that same spot.
Businesses and the grand Event Center are being completed bit by bit and will open throughout 2013. It will be a gathering place for foodies and people who love beer, wine and spirits with a few very eclectic shopping experiences thrown in.
If you have some time go take a look. It’s a very walkable, appealing to the eye spot and once the trees take root they will take some of the heat off of strolling under the blazing afternoon sun. Currently a handful of tasting rooms are open: LaFollette Wines, Marimar Estate and WindGap, add in Taylor Maid Farms a coffee roaster and cafe, Counter Culture Arthaus Gallery, Tibetan Gallery & Studio and Ben Kinmont Bookseller, who specializes in selling vintage culinary and food books and you have a nice itinerary to kill some time before you have lunch or dinner downtown.
