Running to Eat
Happy 2014, to those of you who take the time to read our little blog. Thanks so much, clap, clap!
So let’s start off with running and eating – my two favorite things. Just outside of Sebastopol right off of Hwy 12 is Laguna de Santa Rosa, a small, compact wetland park run by the not for profit, Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation. A 1.8 mile point to point packed trail, with two small additional trails to add on if you so choose, or a little over 3 mile trail if you do an out and back thing, which you should do because it’s not that arduous of a run or walk.
I’ve done this trail twice already, two beautiful frosty mornings with my sisters and a few other people because it’s a great place to take the doggie too at 8:30am on a Saturday. You’re dressed in layers, the sun is low and your breath is steamy. All you can think about is finishing and having brunch at Zazu in the nearby Barlow.
Zazu brunch on Saturday or Sunday 9:30am is perfect – you almost have the place to yourself – which is fine – you warm up with a hot cup of their Mexican hot chocolate(that has a tame bite from chili spice that hits your mouth seconds after you take that first sip) or one of their Taylor Maid mochas – no holding the whip because it’s the weekend and I deserve the dollap.
Then I wait for my Black bean, baked egg, smashed avo and feta which comes in a small bubbling ramakin with warm tortilla chips and a lovely spicy salsa on the side. Baked eggs – poached eggs – coddled eggs – eggs are trending in a big way guys. These eggs are semi-runny and soak the black beans and avo – God, this is good. Remember: run and brunch.
Laguna de Santa Rosa, 2 trailheads: 1)right off Hwy 12 coming East from Santa Rosa and 2)Occidental Road in Santa Rosa, small parking lot, only Hwy 12 trailhead has chemical toilet.
